VIDEO: How Does He Do That: The Torque Roll

I thought it might be fun for fans to take an “insiders look” at some of the different maneuvers that I fly during my air show sequence. To do that, our team is creating a series of short “How Does He Do That” videos. In this series, we’ll let you in on some of the “tricks” to performing some of our favorite maneuvers.

For the first installment in the series, we take you inside the “Torque Roll” to see how it’s choreographed and positioned in our performance. Hang on to your seats as I go vertical into the sky before sliding backwards at almost 100mph!

For The Love Of The Game

2010, like most years, was filled with high flying adventure. Being “on the circuit” for another season of high performance flying, we experienced the full range of human emotions. We had the excitement and thrill of racing in the shadows of the Statue of Liberty, making memories in the sky with friends and fans, but we also shed some tears at the loss of our dear friends Alex and Adrian.

I recently had the unique opportunity to speak about my passion for flying and about what drives me and many others in high performance aviation to pursue perfection day in and day out. That’s what air shows are all about…striving for excellence.

However, this passionate pursuit is only possible with the support of family, friends, and business partners. Without them, the path is not worth traveling. After all, this is a journey, and a journey you have to cherish every step of the way.

Take a look at this great video by airshowbuzz.com. As you’ll see, flying is a lot more about dedication and hard work than it is dreaming about being “in the clouds”.

So, for 2011, find your passion and grab hold of it. You’ll be happy you did.

“Raw” In Cockpit Torque Roll

Take a quick look at an unedited, inside view of a Torque Roll. There’s no music, “it’s raw”! The only sound is the natural note coming from our massive Lycoming Thunderbolt IO-580, hangin on our Hartzell composite prop. This is what it’s really like inside our ASB.TV Extra. You’ll notice that I’m talking at the top of the maneuver, I am doing an altitude “safety check” with my crew chief Matt Chapman. I call the altitude at the top and he confirms that what I see is what he sees. It’s a great double check for safety. Hope you like this look at what it’s like in our plane. No fancy music, just the “real deal”!!!! Mikey G
