Michael Goulian Biography
Michael Goulian was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on September 4, 1968. Michael grew up with his brother Matthew and his parents Myron and Rita in Arlington, Massachusetts.
During his formative years, Michael was heavily involved in school activities with an emphasis on sports and education. He was an accomplished ice hockey player, golfer, and baseball player.
Michael graduated from Arlington High School in 1986 and attended Salem State College. He continues his education today through intense reading and association with business groups including the Young Entrepreneurs Organization.
His flying started at age 14 when his father gave him a summer job washing planes at his business, Executive Flyers Aviation (EFA). Myron wanted his son to learn the aviation business from the ground up so he started with a bucket of soap and a wash mitt.
It was clear from the beginning that Michael would make aviation his life. He started flying lessons when he was just fifteen and soloed the following summer. In fact, Michael could fly a plane solo before he was allowed to drive a car on the road.
His passion for aerobatics started when Michael was home sick from school and saw the movie Cloud Dancer, a movie about aerobatics starring David Carradine. Once out of College, Michael would not let the competitive flame burn out so he focused on competitive aerobatics. He was soon winning most of the regional contests he entered. In 1990, he became the youngest pilot to ever become National Advanced Aerobatic Champion and in 1995, he became one of the youngest Champions in the elite Unlimited Category.
Michael has also competed in three World Aerobatic Contests and was ranked seventh in his last World Contest held in Trencin, Slovakia in 1998.
Michael’s father passed away from cancer in 2000 and he stepped up to take EFA into its second generation. He has enjoyed the challenge and spends much of his time at EFA when not flying Airshows.
Michael lives with his wife Karin. She is also a business owner. Their mutual understanding of business and dedication to passionate goals makes them a great pair.
Together, Michael and Karin enjoy mountain biking, skiing, music, and flying.
Michael gives back to the aviation industry by being a member of the ICAS Board of Directors, an active Aerobatic Competency Evaluator (ACE), and FAA SafetyCounselor.
