With ASB.tv as our new sponsor for 2010, we’re excited to announce that our EXTRA 330SC is already half-way through its transformation from the Castrol Aviator EXTRA 330 to the ASB EXTRA 330. The aircraft is in the capable hands of Oxford Aviation, a paint and refinishing company based in Oxford, Maine that we have trusted for years to refurbish our aircraft inside and out.

Oxford pride’s itself on “consistent quality” and they never fail to accomplish that goal. You may already know of Oxford Aviation because they are one of the companies consistently chosen by AOPA to refinish their “better than new” series of aircraft, including the most recent Piper Archer.

Oxford’s President, Jim Horowitz, is not just a business owner and a good friend, but also a pilot himself, who takes a very hands-on approach to making sure every aircraft is handled like his own through any type of refurbishment.

At this point, the Extra has been dis-assembled and stripped of most of the green and red paint. Because the plane is mostly composite, they must use hand sanders to remove the paint because the typical stripper can harm the composites. It’s a long a tedious process but the results are worth the effort.

Air show team technician, Matt Chapman, has also recovered the fuselage with new fabric, which is ready for primer. The wings and ailerons are in the process of being stripped of all paint. Check out a preview of the final design in the slide show below.
