The track at Euro Speedway in Germany was one of the most aggressive we’ve seen yet this year. The goal, as in Ascot, was to fly as fast or faster in the race as we did in training. Mission accomplished!! During the Round of 14 flight against Matthias [Dolderer], I flew my fastest time all week and one of the three fastest times of the day. Our team has been “on point” these last two races and I’m feeling relaxed and confident in the race plane. Not a bad place to be for Team 99. We can’t wait to come home to the USA and rock it in Indy!!
What can I say, flew my heart out here in Germany but we were just a hair off the pace to make the Final 4. We’ll take 6th as a team knowing we’re performing flawlessly when it counts.

Video transcript from Goulian’s interview:
Due to Martin’s [Sonka] disqualification, I moved up one and got the unlucky position of having to fly against the ‘hometown guys’ so what can you do, you have to go out there and give it your all which is what I did, I flew as hard as I could against Matthias [Dolderer] and tried to make him make a mistake. So the run that I did was about as good as I could do. I was super happy with it. Wasn’t quite up to his speed but moving through as the lucky loser which we figured that was what we would do – if we lost to Matthias we were going to be close anyway and just keep on going, which is what we did. Against Martin [Sonka] in the round of 8 I don’t know what it is but we’ve all been taking about it – there is a magical second out there on this race track. You can fly exactly like you did lap over lap and for whatever reason that .8, .5, 1 second – it disappears. That’s what happened to me on that one. I thought as I pulled through the finish gate on that round of 8 flight “that’s going to be a 53.8, 53.9, 54 even” and it wasn’t. I don’t know what happened. We will look at it but it’s just one of those things where you just have to be pleased with the fact that you went out there and laid down two, what you think, are perfect laps just as the computer simulation tells you to do. So it’s just whether the start speed was slow a little bit or whatever it was – I’ll take 6th. I’d like to be in the final 4; that’s the goal but we are going to go to the United States with even more confidence because we’ve had two really good showings in a row, the airplane is starting to get fast and my team is fantastic. We are having a good time and we are looking forward to going back to the United States.
