Enroute to Boston’s Logan International Airport Monday morning to board their flight to the first Red Bull Air Race of 2017 in Abu Dhabi, Team 99 took a moment to reflect on the previous race season and what it means to them moving forward.

What an emotional Red Bull Air Race weekend in Las Vegas. It was SO amazing to have flown and broken the track record (48.293 seconds). In fact, it was the fastest time ever flown in the three years we have raced in Vegas. However, due to the high wind, the committee had to cancel the race with two pilots left to fly, so my time was awesome but there wasn’t a result for the race. What a complete rush it was for the entire Goulian team to compete inside the historical Indianapolis Motor Speedway this last weekend. On Saturday morning, free practice times were looking great, as Michael placed 2nd just .921 seconds behind Martin Sonka. Saturday afternoon’s Qualifying run was almost perfect, but an incorrect level penalty of 2 seconds brought Michael’s time down to 9th place which set him up to fly against Martin Sonka on Sunday’s Round of 14. The first US Red Bull Air Race is this weekend in Indianapolis, IN at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With Michael’s personal passion for motor racing, it’s a rush for him to be inside the track standing in Gasoline Alley and other legendary track spots that he only has the chance to see on tv. The team and race plane are both in great shape to start practice runs on the track on Friday.
The track at Euro Speedway in Germany was one of the most aggressive we’ve seen yet this year. The goal, as in Ascot was to fly as fast or faster in the race as we did in training. Mission accomplished!! During the Round of 14 flight against Matthias, I flew my fastest time all week and one of the three fastest times of the day. Our team has been “on point” these last two races and I’m feeling relaxed and confident in the race plane. Not a bad place to be for Team 99. We can’t wait to come home to the USA and rock it in Indy!!
On 3–4 September, the Red Bull Air Race will make a highly anticipated return to the EuroSpeedway Lausitz in Germany. The stop at the oval formerly known as the Lausitzring will be the last chance for American pilots Kirby Chambliss and Michael Goulian to prepare for the highlight of their season: two home stops in the USA.
This weekend at the Red Bull Air Race in Ascot, England turned out well – with a trip to the Final 4 for the 1st time this season and a 4th place in the standings, The Goulian team left feeling like we gave it our all.
