2016 Las Vegas Red Bull Air Race Goulian Recap

What an emotional Red Bull Air Race weekend in Las Vegas. It was SO amazing to have flown and broken the track record (48.293 seconds). In fact, it was the fastest time ever flown in the three years we have raced in Vegas. However, due to the high wind, the committee had to cancel the race with two pilots left to fly, so my time was awesome but there wasn’t a result for the race. 2016 Indy Red Bull Air Race Goulian Recap

What a complete rush it was for the entire Goulian team to compete inside the historical Indianapolis Motor Speedway this last weekend. On Saturday morning, free practice times were looking great, as Michael placed 2nd just .921 seconds behind Martin Sonka. Saturday afternoon’s Qualifying run was almost perfect, but an incorrect level penalty of 2 seconds brought Michael’s time down to 9th place which set him up to fly against Martin Sonka on Sunday’s Round of 14. The first US Red Bull Air Race is this weekend in Indianapolis, IN at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With Michael’s personal passion for motor racing, it’s a rush for him to be inside the track standing in Gasoline Alley and other legendary track spots that he only has the chance to see on tv. The team and race plane are both in great shape to start practice runs on the track on Friday.

2016 German Red Bull Air Race Goulian Recap

The track at Euro Speedway in Germany was one of the most aggressive we’ve seen yet this year. The goal, as in Ascot was to fly as fast or faster in the race as we did in training. Mission accomplished!! During the Round of 14 flight against Matthias, I flew my fastest time all week and one of the three fastest times of the day. Our team has been “on point” these last two races and I’m feeling relaxed and confident in the race plane. Not a bad place to be for Team 99. We can’t wait to come home to the USA and rock it in Indy!!

This weekend at the Red Bull Air Race in Ascot, England turned out well – with a trip to the Final 4 for the 1st time this season and a 4th place in the standings, The Goulian team left feeling like we gave it our all. It was a privilege to return to the 2016 National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan, over the 4th of July weekend. The Cherry Festival hosts a weekend air show (Friday – Monday) to kick off the week-long event. The team was able to capture its first 360 degree video to showcase Michael’s performance over Lake Michigan – check out the short video clip on this post.

2016 Chiba Red Bull Air Race Recap for Team Goulian

The 2016 Red Bull Air Race in Japan is over for Team 99. Saturday’s Qualifying Races were cancelled due to extreme high winds so the head-to-head heats for Sunday were based upon World Championship Standings (instead of Qualifying runs). This placed Goulian’s head-to-head race against Britain’s Nigel Lamb. An over-G penalty on Sunday cost Team 99 the chance to advance into the Round of 8.

Americans, Goulian and Chambliss, enter Chiba in the thick of a tight title battle

Given their recent efforts, American pilots Kirby Chambliss and Michael Goulian both have strong potential for the race podium at the third stop of the 2016 Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Chiba, Japan this weekend. Success could put either pilot closer to – or among – the top three in the overall standings.
