It’s air show time! Our first 2016 air show this weekend in Tampa, Florida will be a kickoff to the season like no other. The Tampa Bay Air Fest, hosted by MacDill Air Force Base this weekend will not only have an awesome line up of performers, including our own Mike Goulian, but will also have the most fan interactive air show ever – utilizing the production team from Reality Check Systems.

Goulian’s Team #99 is in Abu Dhabi assembling the race plane ahead of the Red Bull Air Race this weekend. We spent the winter rebuilding and redesigning every inch of it. Nothing was left untouched. Mike and Team Coordinator, Pablo Branco, review the modifications and explore their motivation in this video.
This week, Team #99 reached a huge milestone as we completed an incredibly successful modification and test program on our Red Bull Air Race Edge 540. After an amazing around the clock effort by my Teammates & Bully Aero, we have built what we feel is a monster race plane.

The event is an afternoon saluting pilot chefs with an opportunity to listen to Mike Goulian’s personal experiences, stories, and moments in aviation where he’s identified his personal limits.
Team Goulian’s official 2016 calendar is shaping up. We’re only two months away from the first of eight Red Bull Air Race World Championship events, kicking off once again in Abu Dhabi. On our schedule, you’ll find many of our favorite events such as Sun’ n Fun and Oshkosh, but the air show team is excited to be attending some new events in 2016.
It was an emotional weekend here at the Red Bull Air Race in Las Vegas. The last race of the year had it’s ups and downs. We had a solid Qualifying run on Saturday, setting us up to fly against Hannes Arch on Sunday. On Sunday we flew well in the Round of 14 allowing us to advance to the Round of 8.
As is the norm, Team #99 arrived early for the @redbullairrace stop in Las Vegas. The team had to complete an engine change in Fort Worth the Friday night prior to Qualifying day just three weeks ago – so early this week, team technician, Dax Wanless, and Team Coordinator, Pablo Branco spent time setting up the engine for maximum horsepower while trying to keep the engine temps under control.
Looking back at this weekend’s Red Bull Air Race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX, it can be described in a few words: teamwork, determination, collaboration and focus. With the return of the air race to the US, it was a great feeling to be competing back on US soil where everything is familiar and focusing on racing was easier than ever. After Friday’s practice run paving the way to issues with the Edge’s landing gear among other things, our team worked very hard to remedy the issues.
Goulian comes into the Red Bull Air Race at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend (September 26 – 27) energized and motivated, after problems with his instrumentation thwarted his charge toward the Final 4 in Spielberg, Austria. For Massachusetts-born Goulian, it’s time to do what folks in The Lonestar State are famous for: He’s ready to take a stand.
The Red Bull Air Race was back in Spielberg, Austria this year and team #99 was ready to make it to the Final 4 on Sunday. We we had it all together, but got tricked by an electronic failure and lost our start speed indication on the panel.
The Red Bull Air Race in Ascot, England, had its ups and downs. With inclement weather during the entire week – the race teams had no practice time on the track. The first practice was on Saturday morning, allowing for only two runs before the afternoon Qualifying lineup. Watch Michael’s race through the track and post-race interview here.
Competing in the Red Bull Air Race is surely one of the most amazing ventures any aviator could hope for in a career. Sometimes, we all have to stop and look around to realize how lucky we are to participate in such an incredible sport! As I was flying to London ahead of this week’s race, I started thinking about that, but also about how many challenges exist in putting together and fielding an Air Race team.
Many people ask Mike Goulian the difference between air show flying and Red Bull Air Race flying. Well, that’s a great question actually. Mike sheds some light on the role of physical fitness and G tolerance while flying in air shows and air races.

Things were looking promising for Michael Goulian and Team 99 during the training flights over the Danube River in Budapest, Hungary at the latest installment of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. Fast lap times kept Goulian near the top of the unofficial leaderboard throughout the midweek practice sessions.
Michael Goulian and Team 99 last tasted victory in 2009, with a blazing win over Budapest, Hungary. This weekend, Goulian hopes to repeat that performance as the Red Bull Air Race World Championship returns to its birthplace for the first time in 6 years. With the 2015 season half complete, Goulian remains increasingly confidant in his team, his machine, and his flying.
